OAG, a sponsor of ABTN, in its quarterly review of airline capacity, says that the actual global number of flights this month is just 2% higher than January 2005. In detail the so-called ”low cost” market shows a 9% increase in sectors whilst capacity in seat terms has risen by no less than 18% against an overall scheduled service capacity increase of 4%. In January, worldwide, airlines will be operating nearly 2.3m scheduled flights, the highest January flights programme since 2001, offering the equivalent of some 266.5m seats.
