EXETER AIRPORT, one of the last UK airports in public ownership, is finally to be put up for sale. Devon County Council has agreed to sell 75% of Exeter and Devon Airport Ltd (EDAL) in a move that should pave the way for a much needed modern terminal, better access and improved technical facilities as well as an expansion of the industrial area. Passenger numbers are expected to nearly double this year from the 2003 figure of almost 400,000. Possible purchasers could include the Peel Group (who own Liverpool Airport and are presently engaged in a major development at Doncaster), TBI (Belfast International, Cardiff and Luton owner) and also the Manchester Airport Group (operators of four UK airports).
