EUROCONTROL has put out some figures which very clearly highlight the size and complexity of commercial air traffic in the crowded skies above us. The single day of Friday 28 May saw 28,754 flights within the EUROCONTROL area, the largest number since records begin. The month of May as a whole saw 767,858 flights ” up 5.6% on the same period of 2003. The average delay overall was 7.8 minutes with en-route air traffic control restrictions responsible for 10%.
