ETIHAD AIRWAYS, the Abu Dhabi based airline which made its UK debut on 28 March 2004, is to introduce Gatwick departures and increase the number of flights to its hub by 50%, to 15 a week for winter 2004. The new schedule will see Etihad introducing seven services a week from Gatwick in addition to offering eight flights a week from Heathrow. The airline says it can now offer passengers the choice of daily flights from either of London”s major airports and the convenience of daylight or overnight flights to and from Abu Dhabi. The new schedule will also offer more convenient onward connections to Bangkok, Colombo, India and other destinations. The airline says it expects to announce major plans for the acquisition of new aircraft later in the summer.
