ETIHAD, the official airline of the United Arab Emirates and based in Abu Dhabi, is to add Manchester to its destinations for the spring of 2006. The flights from Manchester will complement the Etihad Airways daily services already in operation from both Heathrow and Gatwick airports. And the route will not be served by interim aircraft. Brand new three class A330s will be used for the operation. Abu Dhabi is a hub in its own right for services to India and southeast Asia, but is also a very sensible alternative for the Dubai seaside resorts without the need to pass through the city state”s teaming airport. Speaking at World Travel Market UK general manager Peter Dunkin was adamant about two points. Flyers with Etihad are guests and not passengers. And that the airline is not interested in any fifth freedom flights from the UK. ”We are a point to point airline”. Guests in Etihad's premium cabins can enjoy a complimentary chauffeur drive service between the airport and their final destination anywhere in the UAE. Here he is seen with Clive Tilley, Marketing Director, Manchester Airport announcing the new route.
