Etihad Airways is expected to make an announcement soon regarding the fate of its Edinburgh route, with some speculating the flights may be axed by October.
The route was established in 2015 and faces strong competition from Qatar Airways’ flights to Doha and Emirates’ service between Glasgow and Dubai. When then CEO James Hogan announced the route, he said the airline aimed to open two Scottish routes, with the second planned for 2020.
Scottish newspaper The Scotsman said a source told it the rumour is likely to be true, as Etihad has been making cutbacks across is network.
However, the airline’s website still shows tickets on the route for sale through November.
A spokesperson told BBT sister publication Business Traveller: “Etihad continues to review its network and make a select number of adjustments, which will be announced at the appropriate time.”
