Etihad Airways will operate an all-A380 service on its Abu Dhabi-New York JFK route.
The carrier operates a twice daily service between the two destinations, with one already operated by the superjumbo, and the other by a B777-300ER aircraft.
This frequency (flight EY101 departing Abu Dhabi at 1015, and EY100 leaving New York at 2245) is now also being served by Etihad’s A380, which features the a four-class economy, business, first class and The Residence offering.
JFK is the third Etihad route to become all-A380, joining London and Sydney (from the end of October). The airline will also add the A380 to one of its two daily Paris services this summer.
The carrier launched its first daily non-stop services to New York JFK in October 2006, before moving to twice-daily from March 2014. The A380 was first introduced on the route in November 2015.
Commenting on the move Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways CEO said:
“The response we have received from our guests travelling between Abu Dhabi and New York since we first launched the A380 service two years ago has been phenomenal. We are delighted to further expand our world-leading product to all guests flying to and from the Big Apple.
“By introducing the A380 on the second daily service, we can ensure that every flight delivers the acclaimed service and hospitality, innovative products and technology for which we have become known the world over.”
Rival Gulf carrier Emirates recently confirmed plans to cut frequencies on five of its 12 US routes, although the airline’s New York service was not affected by the move.
