EASYJET is to launch 11 routes from a new base at Berlin's Schonefeld Airport, sited in the former Eastern part of the city and destined to become Brandenburg International Airport at some point in the future. Unlike many new major airport projects Schonefeld already has a first class rail link to the city centre and any future major airport construction should not interfere with the easyJet operation from the existing terminal. For UK passengers the airline will initially operate to Luton three times daily and Newcastle, Bristol and Liverpool daily. There will also be daily flights to a number of European cities, including Palma, Athens and Barcelona. easyJet has some knowledge of the German market from its serious bid to buy Deutsche BA earlier this year (see also DBA above).
