NEWCASTLE now has an alternative route to London with the opening last week of a four times weekdaily service by Eastern Airways from the local airport to London City. The route is currently operated by a single class Dornier 328 turboprop with a flight time of 1 hour 15 minutes. The airline points out that whilst the very popular Saab cruises at a lesser speed than typically the Airbus A320 series aircraft used by British Airways into Heathrow, LCY is not subject to the congestion both on the ground and in the air at London”s major international airport. Rob Andrews and the Newcastle Falcons rugby team took the first ever flight southbound.
