EASTERN AIRWAYS, the Humberside-based UK regional airline, has come up with a simple scheme that might just catch on with airlines who have small aircraft. Although it is an Embraer jet operator the majority of its fleet are 18-seat Jetstream 31/32 and 29-seat Jetstream 41s. Eastern passengers at Southampton can now use the airport”s Fastrack facility bypassing those queuing for their Airbus or Boeing, a real bonus for the short haul traveller. Eastern will carry half a million passengers this year from 17 airports in England and Scotland; Belfast in Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man. A sign of its growing strength and maturity is the appointment of former UK BA regional sales chief Keith Watson, as head of sales and marketing (see left).
