Flybe franchise partner Eastern Airways is adding 12 flights a week to its Stornoway-Aberdeen route.
There is now a double-daily service in operation Monday to Friday, while a new Sunday flight will launch on 11 March.
Monday flights depart Aberdeen at 0800 and 1410, while return services leave Stornoway at 0925 and 1535. Tuesday to Thursday services from Aberdeen leave at 0640 and 1410, returning at 0805 and 1535. Friday flights leave Aberdeen at 0640 and 1625, with return services at 0805 and 1735. Lastly, Sunday flights depart Aberdeen at 1420 and return at 1540.
Eastern Airways entered a new partnership with Flybe in October 2017, though Flybe has since scaled back some of its services in Scotland.
Councillor Uisdean Robertson, chair of the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (Western Isles Council), said the announcement was “cautiously” welcomed, adding: “We will seek to work with the airline in ensuring the viability of the route and the services provided by them.”
Mathew Herzberg, head of commercial at Eastern Airways, added: “We have seen an increase in passenger numbers on the route and listened to feedback, and the time is now right to increase to double daily, offering day return options... The additional frequency also means that Stornoway passengers will have improved access to the many Flybe flights such as London Heathrow, Manchester and Birmingham via Aberdeen.”
