EUJET, an Irish registered scheduled airline, has ceased flying after owner PlaneStation Plc (the former Wiggins Group), went into administration. Several thousand passengers already overseas were affected, as well as clients booked (and paying), in advance. When a British charter airline flounders, as in the past, clients who have booked holiday packages including a hotel, are protected through a bond known as an ATOL. The Eujet failure opens up the debate whether the authority, where an airline”s main operation is based, should have power to act, and also questions the expertise of so-called analysts in judging Eujet; many experienced airline experts questioning the basing of an airline at Manston in the first place.
