SILVERJET, the embryo business class airline operation out of Luton,
has taken a further step forward with a successful IPO raising ”25.3m
from institutional and other investors. The airline plans to commence
operations later this year with a twice-daily Boeing 767 service
between London and Newark New York, each aircraft configured with 100
inclined flat beds. A start date will be confirmed once negotiations
over aircraft are complete. Silverjet”s anticipated average fare for
the London ” New York route is ”999, which is substantially below
current average fares for business class travel and compared with the
levels charged by Maxjet, a similar operation out of Stansted ” JFK.
Silverjet plans to use a private terminal at Luton, bypassing the busy
central area.
