Delta to roll out new international Main Cabin experience

From November, Delta Air Lines is set to debut a new in-flight experience for Main Cabin passengers on its international services.

As part of the new experience, customers will be greeted by the lead flight attendant at the gate before embarking, followed by a personal greeting at the boarding door. They will then be given complimentary “Welcome Aboard” cocktails shortly after departure, starting with Bellinis made with sparkling wine and infused peach puree.

Passengers will also be offered a hot towel service near the beginning of the flight.

Main Cabin customers will receive a new “bistro-style” meal service with ‘upgraded’ appetisers and entrees to mix and match, with food served on custom-designed dinnerware and cutlery. Dessert will be served separately after the main meal, along with a selection of tea, coffee, complimentary wine or water. This will be followed by a second hot towel service.

As the aircraft begins its descent, passengers will be offered free chocolates.

Delta says the new experience has received positive feedback from passengers on more than 700 test flights between Portland and Tokyo over the past year. The updated service is part of the carrier’s multi-billion dollar investment in overall customer experience, which also includes the introduction of free Main Cabin meals on select domestic coast-to-coast routes, free mobile messaging and in-flight entertainment, upgraded Main Cabin snacks, the addition of sparkling wine and expanded access to in-flight wifi.

The update, designed by a team of Delta flight attendants, will be rolled out on international flights scheduled for 6.5 hours or longer, as well as on shorter international routes where the Delta One or Delta Premium Select cabins are offered.
