Delta Air Lines and Korean Air have received approval by the US Department of Transportation to commence a transpacific joint venture.
The partnership will see both airlines offer passengers “an enhanced and expanded flight network”, according to Delta. The combined network will cover more than 290 destinations in the Americas and more than 80 in Asia, and the carriers will extend codeshare agreements on transpacific routes.
Delta says its passengers will be able to earn and redeem Delta Skymiles, while Korean Air customers can do the same with the Skypass programme. The airlines say they will share costs and revenues on flights within the joint venture.
Earlier this year, Delta announced a direct flight from Atlanta to Seoul and the carrier says this new partnership will offer passengers connecting flights to other Asian destinations on Korean Air’s network.
