WEST MIDLANDS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, better known as Coventry and now owned by TUI UK, has confirmed that it is appealing against the enforcement notices issued by Warwick District Council. In a statement TUI UK the airport said: 'We will be appealing against the notices. This would seem to be an unfortunate commencement of what may be a long and drawn out process.” The airport argues that the terminal falls within its 'permitted development rights' and does not need planning permission. The council has effectively managed to stop the development of car parking near the terminal, which is in an industrial complex, thus requiring passengers to use the existing space on the west side of the airport near Baginton village. The net result is that Thomsonfly is operating with ever increasing loads whilst the villagers of Baginton continue to suffer with traffic that is completely needless. Coventry City Council, the airport freeholder, is supporting the TUI expansion. The action is expected to be played out in the High Court 13/14 May.
