COVENTRY AIRPORT is to be the home for a new budget airline called Thomsonfly.com, set up by German travel conglomerate TUI, in effect a division of Britannia Airways. Launched on 31 March Thomsonfly will offer direct services to 11 European destinations: Ibiza, Jersey, Malaga, Marseilles, Naples, Nice, Palma, Pisa, Rome, Valencia and Venice. 131-seat Boeing 737-500 aircraft will be used and a new facility is currently under way at Coventry Airport South to accommodate the first scheduled services at the well located airport since the 1970s. Owned by the Air Atlantique Group, Coventry is best known for its freight activities and is the home of Atlantic Airlines the Lockheed Electra operator. Thomsonfly says that passengers can pre-book their seats by payment of ”5 at the time that the reservation is made and that bookings have been heavy since they opened last week.
