SWISS is to take drastic action to cut costs following continued losses.
Thirty-four aircraft are to be withdrawn from services and around 3,000 jobs will be lost by the time that the winter schedules are introduced at the end of October.
Quite how this will affect the UK market remains to be seen but the regional fleet is to be reduced from 59 to 35 aircraft, possibly by the phasing out of the 23 strong Saab 2000 turboprop fleet.
Overall the network is to be reduced by 35% with the long haul fleet down to just 18 aircraft.
For its short haul European business routes the airline will no longer serve food and beverage in economy class, but will still retain its premium C class operation. http://www.swiss.com
