CONTINENTAL AIRLINES has named a Boeing 777 in honour of its outgoing chairman and CEO Gordon Bethune. Airline chiefs departing with any form of glory is rare these days, particularly in North America, but Bethune is a deserving case. He is the man credited with turning around CO from a ”basket case” in 1994 to perhaps the USA”s most successful airline at this time and the winner of the 2004 OAG Airline of the Year award. Continental”s current president and COO Larry Kellner will assume Bethune”s responsibilities.
