BROOKLANDS is to be the home of Concorde 202 G-BBDG, a pre-production prototype, the only British Airways” owned SST not to operate scheduled services for the airline. At a weekend sometime in April the dismantled aircraft will be transported by road from its present Filton location to Weybridge (you have been warned ” watch this space). Brooklands director Allan Winn, former editor of Flight International, tells ABTN that the aircraft will form part of the new Vickers memorial including Varsity, Viking, Viscount, Vanguard and BAC 1-11. Brooklands, the world”s first purpose-built motor racing circuit and a prospective World Heritage site, is currently undergoing a substantial upgrading. Whilst the Anglo-French aircraft is perhaps synonymous with other airports the Vickers (nee BAC) plant at Weybridge produced more of Concorde than any other factory, and is in truth its spiritual home. Brooklands is also looking for more sponsorship and commercial support.
