BA CITIEXPRESS has been quick to respond to media comments from its UK competitors that it is closing routes. It says that although the division is loss making and eight Manchester destinations were eliminated at the end of the summer season, fleet and network changes announced earlier are delivering a significant improvement to the business. However, a review of the operation is currently being undertaken but BA does not foresee job losses, or closure of regional bases (although of course they can never be ruled out). Jet2 has now confirmed that it will operate five times per week to Rome from next April and four services a week to Pisa from May, taking its Manchester total to 17 European destinations.
