Global airline capacity this week is up 2 per cent compared
with last week to 29.8 million seats, with capacity up in eight of 17 regional
markets, according to analysis from OAG.
China is leading capacity growth this week, with one million
seats added. Much of that was domestic, and China's domestic airline capacity
has recovered to about 75 per cent of where it was in January.
South American carriers have also capacity this week.
Capacity increased 16.9 per cent week over week in lower South America up and
13.8 per cent in upper South America.
US domestic capacity, meanwhile, is 27 per cent of January
levels. Cancellations among US carriers have been slowing, however, down from a
rate of 9 per cent at the beginning of May to about 4 per cent in the past four
days, according to OAG.
Russia’s domestic capacity is at 49 per cent of pre-Covid
levels, while the UK stands at just 4 per cent. No Western European markets appeared
in the top ten globally this week, showing the damage Covid-19 has done to the
region’s air capacity, OAG said.
