THE CIVIL AVIATION AUTHORITY has said airlines should be given widespread freedom to trade airport slots. In a joint report with the Office of Fair Trading a study, it warned against "heavy-handed" measures and recommended only a handful of rules to prevent anti-competitive behaviour. They include banning carriers from imposing restrictions on slots they sell to rivals and the publication of information to increase transparency. The European Union is expected to make announcements on slots later this year.
