BIRMINGHAM INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT has recorded its busiest May ever, with 843,945 travellers passing through its terminals, an increase of 14% on the same month last year. May also saw the busiest day ever with 35,385 passengers handled on Friday 23rd. The increased availability of low fares, new routes and greater frequencies from Birmingham were the main factors behind the growth in May. Scheduled traffic overall was up by 20%, with international traffic seeing a 22% rise. Travellers using domestic services increased by 16.5%, and passengers travelling to the Indian sub-continent from Birmingham increased by 20.3%. Charter traffic also grew during May by 6.1%, with more people travelling to the Canaries (+9.3%), Greece (+19.2%), Portugal (+17.9%) Italy (+4.8%) and Spain (+3.7%). http://www.bhx.co.uk
