BRUSSELS has become one of the first airports in Europe to offer common use self-service check-in kiosks. Until recently, the self check-in kiosks were linked to one single airline. Today”s new technology adds a new dimension. Thanks to the latest developments and the recent definition of an international standard, it is possible from now on to serve passengers from different airlines on the same kiosk, providing the airline in question is connected to the system. The replacement of the various airline-specific kiosks by common-use self-service kiosks allows airlines to cut costs while offering a quick and user-friendly check-in. These check-in kiosks ”read” the air ticket, mileage card or credit card and check in the passenger on the flight in question allowing him to choose his seat on board and enter the flight in his mileage programme, after which a boarding pass is delivered. Passengers with check-in baggage can also make use of the check-in kiosks, once again assuming their airline provides this service.
