COVENTRY AIRPORT is the unlikely precursor of an airline which will very quickly become of the largest of its type. TUI has announced the re-branding of Britannia Airways as Thomsonfly and also the establishment of a further base at Bournemouth to operate budget services. Since commencing passenger flights from Coventry 31 March, Thomsonfly.com has flown over 350,000 sector passengers. The airline carried out an in-flight survey in August. Over 7,000 questionnaires were collected, providing some interesting information about the passengers. 21% of those surveyed had flown with the airline previously ” with a quarter of these four times or more during the airline's first six months of operation. The data reveals that the most frequent flyer has flown 16 times with the airline. Business travellers were most likely to be repeat bookers ” almost half had flown with the airline before. Over three quarters of customers were travelling on leisure, the remainder were visiting friends and family or travelling on business. Thomsonfly.com has carried over 35,000 inbound passenger sectors with the top five departure points (in descending order) Jersey, Valencia, Malaga, Marseille and Rome. 91% of bookings were made online.
