BRITANNIA AIRWAYS has become the first UK charter airline to carry a dog under the Passport for Pets scheme. This is open to guide dogs for the blind and hearing dogs for the deaf. At present it works outbound from any UK airport but inbound only at Gatwick, where there are the proper facilities to inspect the animal and scan the dog”s ”passport”, an electronic chip under its coat. However the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association are looking forward to Manchester Airport introducing these facilities in the near future. Oakey last week flew from Gatwick to Arrecife, behaved himself impeccably, and, we are told, is looking forward to the return journey in April.
