BOMBARDIER”S new Global 5000 super-large business jet, has set a new standard in its class by flying non-stop from San Francisco to Farnborough in an impressive demonstration of its capabilities. The Bombardier jet, a flight test aircraft equipped with a complete interior for cabin-related function and reliability tests, took 9 hours 29 minutes for the 4,816 nautical miles (8,919 km) while cruising mostly at Mach 0.85 (562 mph; 904 km/h). Scheduled time to Heathrow is about 45 minutes longer. In addition to a three-person crew, the aircraft featured the equivalent of an eight-passenger payload. The aircraft, the second and final prototype set this impressive mark just two days after it exited Bombardier”s Global completion facility at Montreal. After conducting four flights it relocated to San Francisco on 14 July ” and then flew directly to Farnborough where it will be one of the stars of the air show this week.
