BOEING has announced that it is to end production of the twin engined narrow bodied 757 series. So brings to an end a story that started with the first flight in February 1982 and will be completed with the 1054th version of the aircraft towards the end of 2004. A fine and successful aircraft in both passenger and cargo aircraft the 757 has been overtaken by time and its nearness to the largest version of the 737 family plus a customer demand to travel long distances in twin aisle aircraft. The proposed 7E7,which essentially begins where the 757 eneded could be assembled at Boeing”s Renton plant near Seattle, the 757s home for two decades.
