Bmi is to add a further week-day flight between Manchester and Aberdeen bringing its total from Scotland to the north-west to 14 daily, the highest frequency of any scheduled service from the Granite City
The new service coincides with the opening of the global oil and gas exploration event ” Offshore Europe ” in Aberdeen, although a bmi spokesman said the additional rotation will be permanent.
Some services are also due to be retimed between Manchester and Edinburgh/Glasgow from 3 September.
”These additional services between Manchester and Aberdeen make them the most frequent scheduled service at our home base of Aberdeen,” said bmi commercial director, Peter Kenworthy.
”We are also confident that timetable improvements between Manchester and Edinburgh/Glasgow will be popular with travellers. Bmi regional has a strong commitment to Aberdeen and Scotland.”
OAG data shows that bmi, in tandem with a code share on Star Alliance partner, Lufthansa, is the only airline currently operating non-stop Aberdeen-Manchester services. British Airways does serve Manchester, but only via London Heathrow.
Aberdeen Airport managing director Kevin Brown added: "Bmi regional has shown great commitment to its customers in the north east of Scotland by increasing its service to Manchester.”
