Birmingham airport has started work on a multi-million pound programme of improvements that focus on the passenger experience.
Works include redeveloping the security processing area to provide more boarding gates, a dedicated security preparation area and an updated waiting area with new flooring and lighting.
The airport is also developing its retail and catering offer, with a new prosecco bar and restaurant set to open this spring. A new 178-room Hilton Garden Inn hotel will also open this summer.
A covered walkway from the free drop-off car park to the terminal is under construction, while new digital wayfinding and signage will be introduce before the summer flying season begins.
Additional passenger-facing staff are being recruited, including terminal operations, customer relations and security officers.
David Winstanley, COO of Birmingham airport, said: “This investment follows record passenger growth and to ensure that we’re prepared for the coming summer period, when the airport will welcome new long-haul services to New York, Boston and Toronto, as well as many new popular short-haul destinations.”
