BIRMINGHAM AIRPORT has for the first time moved one million passengers in a single month and is now well on the way to a nine million total for the year, clearly demonstrating an upsurge all around. During August 1,017,452 people (+12.9% on previous year) passed through the airport, all good news for new managing director Richard Heard (see picture) who has succeed Brian Summers on his retirement. Richard was previously operations director at the airport which is a public/private partnership. The shareholders include the seven West Midlands district councils (49%), Aer Rianta (24.125%), Macquarie Airports Group (24.125%) and the Employee Share Trust (2.75%).
