IBERIA passengers should check carefully during this week regarding
their pre-booked flights. The airline plans to cancel more than 200
flights per day (Iberia”s figure ” not a press exaggeration) as talks
aimed at avoiding a strike called by the carrier's pilots have
collapsed. The failure in industrial relations has been caused by
plans for the airline to invest in Catair, a new low-cost carrier to
be based in Barcelona, Spain's second-largest city. The company says
that it has guaranteed that no pilots with will lose their jobs as a
consequence of its 20% investment in the new airline, which will
operate chiefly on point-to-point routes where Iberia cannot compete
because of its high costs.
