BELFAST CITY AIRPORT, whose three letter code BHD reflects its earlier life as the harbour airport of Short Brothers, has been bought by Spanish engineering and construction company Ferrovial for ”35m. The airport was put on the market nine months ago by its Canadian owner Bombardier. Ferrovial is now involved with 13 airports worldwide, including Bristol in the UK and Sydney in Australia. Belfast City was opened for commercial air traffic 1983 following the success of the similar London City Airport (although BHD has a much longer runway ” suitable for Boeing 737 operations).
