BAA HEATHROW has invested ”60,000 in a new mobile commuter centre, an old London Routemaster bus to tour around the airport and the Terminal 5 site to help staff and workers find environmentally friendly ways to commute to work. This latest addition to its staff travel advice service, the Mobile Commuter Centre, is to be manned by travel experts from BAA Heathrow's Airport Commuter team. As well as providing free information and advice on rail, tube, bus, coach, cycling and car share, they will sell the Airport”s Travelcard and provide details of staff travel discounts. For the first few weeks, the bus will just be touring the T5 site ” visiting four of the site's compounds twice a week. Later this spring, this will be extended to include other areas of the airport. The old bus interior has been stripped and refurbished with new chairs and tables with TV, video and DVD facilities. BAA decided to keep the eye-catching traditional red colour to make sure it is instantly recognisable. It ia hoped that the bus might turn out at the 50th anniversary Routemaster event at Finsbury Park 24/25 July.
