BRITISH AIRWAYS is to launch a new five times per week Boeing 777
route to Calgary in Western Canada from December 2006. BA completed
its 777 deliveries back in 2001 although it has options on a further
ten aircraft, which need to be confirmed or otherwise within a short
time frame. The ”plane for this service is being sourced from the
cessation of the Singapore ” Melbourne route and reduction of Miami
frequencies. The route is already served twice daily by Air Canada
from Heathrow and with limited services by both Air Transat and Zoom
from Gatwick. At the same time BA is stepping up frequencies to Sao
Paulo to ten times a week, although there is still considerable
criticism in the market place regarding South America where Buenos
Aires only gets four indirect services a week, Rio de Janerio three,
and Santiago not served at all. The name of Robert Boyle, director of
planning, British Airways, was attached to the press release, with
quotes normally attributed to commercial director Martin George, now
on gardening leave.
