BRITISH AIRWAYS finally has a new chief executive in place, rather than a CEO in waiting. Willie Walsh (43), who held the same position with the much smaller Aer Lingus, has been very quick to stamp his authority on the airline since officially taking up the position on 1 October. Asked by British Airways News to comment on three summers ”self - inflicted disruptions” (BA News actual words) Mr Walsh said ”There can be no excuse for what happened. No one can justify it. But I was really encouraged by the attitude of the vast majority of staff who went out of their way to recover the situation. I also met people who were angry and frustrated and said that this can never happen again.” Mr Walsh emphasised the opportunity that Heathrow T5 gave and signalled that next year the airline would make significant investments in Club World, in-flight entertainment and the BA website.
