BRITISH AIRWAYS chairman Martin Broughton has been flying the flag in New York and urging America to scrap rules preventing foreign ownership of US airlines. Speaking at New York”s Wings Club last week he was in a forthright mood, attacking the US airline scene. "How come about half of all US passengers are today travelling on bankrupt airlines?" Broughton said US policy on foreign ownership was "a recipe for confusion!" On the situation regarding a successor to Bermuda II he noted that President Bush had endorsed the goal of a Barrier Free Transatlantic Market in October last year. And going back nearly 30 years president Carter put it even more succinctly "Trade opportunities rather than restrictions." That is the way forward for British Airways Mr Broughton noted.
