BRITISH AIRWAYS has backed a proposed second runway at Birmingham, an extra runway at Edinburgh or Glasgow and new passenger terminals at Manchester in its response to the government consultation on plans to meet expected demands on air travel in the next 30 years. BA has also officially supported the controversial option to build a third shorter runway at Heathrow and in doing so has for the first time acknowledged the importance of feeder services from the provinces into the airport. Up to 60 movements a day are proposed, or five destinations. This suggestion, long promoted by ABTN, would be a lifeline for typically, Guernsey, Jersey, Inverness, Liverpool and Plymouth/Newquay all of whom have lost Heathrow access in recent years. Perhaps as a gesture it might like to offer the slots now! http://www.ba.com
