ST GALLEN (Altenrhein) Airport, about 100km East of Zurich, has appointed the UK airport marketing company, Aviation International Marketing (AIM), to push for UK links. The airport is located right on the borders of Switzerland, Austria and Germany, and close to Lichtenstein and is superbly placed to provide easy access to the major Swiss and Austrian ski resorts in the area. AIM will be targeting both the UK ski market and summer lakes and mountains business as well as trying to develop a scheduled air service to the UK. As the airport has a 1525m runway, AIM will be focusing on airlines with BAe146, Dash 8 and Regional Jet capacity, such as FlyBE. St Gallen is an ideal and cost effective alternative to ZRH, with rapid passenger processing, no slot problems and major highways close to the airport.
