AVCRAFT is to build the wing of the resurrected Dornier 328 Jet in-house at its Oberphaffenhofen plant near Munich. The company says that after studying a number of options, it determined there was insufficient life left in the former tooling in San Antonio, Texas, and that new tooling would save time and cost in the long run, the wings built to the same standard as the rest of the structure. EDAG Engineering + Design AG based in Fulda, Germany, a major project development organisation with over 4,500 employees, will be proving technical assistance. AvCraft plans to complete the first new build 328Jet by the fourth quarter of this year while work is advancing on the five semi-finished aircraft.
