AUSTRALIAN AIRLINES is to introduce a Premium Economy cabin from mid-2006 following what appears to be a trend with long haul quasi leisure airlines, in offering a high yield exclusive section at the front end. Australian is a division of Qantas and flies transcontinental in the Antipodes and to a number of Asian destinations. In another move the airline is to go double daily in mid-2006 on the Tokyo ” Cairns route, with Qantas withdrawing completely. A sixth Boeing 767-300 will be introduced to cover the service. Australian Airlines is making a name for itself in Japan, the only carrier to operate non-stop flight services to Cairns from Osaka, Nagoya and Sapporo.
