AWAS is the new name for leading global lessor Ansett Worldwide, although many in the industry will be already aware of this brand, with it previously being used as an acronym for the company between 1985 and 2001. The company is clear to point out that AWAS is no longer an acronym but is the formal brand for the lessor, which over the past two decades has strengthened its position as one of the world's leading leasing organisations. A key factor behind the decision to change the brand name is understood to be due to confusion in the market between the company and the defunct Australian airline Ansett. AWAS currently owns a fleet of 178 modern generation airliners and has aircraft placed with customers in 44 countries around the world.
