ANKARA is pressing on with its new airport terminal at Esenboga.
Whilst the project currently looks far from complete, the Turkish
contractors are confident that the building will open on time at the
start of the airline winter season 29 October. The entirely new
building, well away from the existing complex, will handle both
international and domestic flights with the airport capacity raised
from 2m to 10m. Esenboga is 25 miles outside Turkey”s prosperous
capital connected by a dual carriageway road, which is also being
upgraded in parts. A metro station has been incorporated into the
project but the actual rail link has not yet been started. Ankara is
now served daily by British Airways, operated by BMED with a full
two-class service.
