The United States outbound passenger market grew by 3% in 2005 when compared to annual 2004 figures. It posts a record for total overseas travel. Figures from the Office of Travel & Tourism Industries show that in 2005, 63.5m US travellers went abroad, surpassing the 2004 record of 61.8m.
The growth came in travel to the overseas US regions, up 5%, and to Mexico, also up 5%. Travel to Canada declined by almost 5%. The top five overseas markets visited by Americans in 2005 were: the United Kingdom, France, China (combined total for the mainland and Hong Kong), Italy and Germany.
