AMERICA WEST AIRLINES, on 1 June, is to become the first and so far only low-fare carrier to operate non-stop transcontinental service between Los Angeles and Washington Dulles International Airport. The airline will offer twice daily return trips between LAX and IAD with a flight time around 5 hours 30 minutes. America West will utilise Airbus A319 aircraft, featuring 12 first class and 112 in coach as well as in-flight audio and video entertainment. Established in 1983 and based in Phoenix it is now the country”s second-largest low fare airline serving 114 destinations, 97 domestic and 17 international with a mixed fleet of around 180 Boeing and Airbus aircraft plus Bombardier regional jets.
