AIRPORTS COUNCIL INTERNATIONAL (ACI): In spite of BA boss Rod Eddington”s forebodings, surprisingly Heathrow still remains one of the few major international airports to see a traffic rise in August (1%) in figures published by ACI. The major US hubs have taken a real hammering with Atlanta down 4.4%, but still number one, Chicago 7.2% and Los Angeles a massive 14%. In mainland Europe the airports are also suffering, Frankfurt off 2.7%, Charles de Gaulle 1.2% and only Amsterdam, of the major gateways, gaining any traffic with a rise of just 1.6% on the same month last year. However both Tokyo airports have strong increases. Haneda is mainly domestic and has grown 4.5% whilst Narita, the international airport, is up 11%. Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore and Beijing all put on passengers.
