COMPLAINTS by airline passengers are on the increase. That”s the view of the AUC (Air Transport Users Council), the UK's official consumer council for air travellers and an Auxiliary Group within the CAA corporate structure. ABTN has learnt that the quango is seeing a more than four-fold increase in complaints since 17 February, when new EU rules were implemented. However the AUC is quick to point out that the figures could be very misleading as its contact details are now prominent in the notice that airlines are required to give to passengers when they are delayed/cancelled/bumped. It does not know whether there are more or less difficulties in real terms. It is pressing the government for a Community Air Passenger Reporting System (similar to the US DoT Consumer Reports).
