AIRBUS is making on time progress, in factories literally all around the world, with the A380 double deck aircraft, due to fly in 2005 and make its airline debut in 2006. Three sets of A380 wings (including one for static testing) are now in the main assembly jigs at Broughton, the former de Havilland/BAe plant near Chester, north Wales, the home of all Airbus wing construction to date. Currently Airbus has received a total of 129 firm orders and commitments from 11 customers for the A380 ” an unprecedented order level for a new aircraft at this stage of its programme. The orders cover both the 555-seat and freighter versions of the new aircraft.
