AIR NEW ZEALAND and Qantas are unlikely to form a strategic alliance. This follows a judgment by the New Zealand High Court to decline an appeal by ANZ against the New Zealand Commerce Commission's to stop such an arrangement. However the two airlines have not ruled out some form of relationship and discussions regarding over capacity on the Tasman Sea routes are to be held. In a strongly worded statement Qantas chief executive Geoff Dixon said that the New Zealand High Court was out of touch with what is going on in the rest of the world.
